Football season in Upstate New York means cool Saturdays, crowded parking lots, folding tables, grills, coolers and at least one person who took responsibility for bringing enough food for everybody. Apparently, Nissan has the truck for the occasion.
The Nissan Frontier PRO-4X was just voted the #1 Best Truck for Tailgating in the USA Today Sports Readers’ Choice Awards, with the winner ultimately decided by readers and the general public after USA Today Sports editors assembled the finalists. For us at Zappone Nissan, it gives drivers another reason to take a closer look at the Nissan Frontier inventory here in Johnstown, especially if your truck needs to handle considerably more than the drive to the stadium.
Why the Nissan Frontier PRO-4X Makes Such a Good Tailgating Truck
A good tailgate starts with somewhere to put everything. The Frontier is available with a six-foot cargo bed, giving you room for coolers, chairs, food, games and the rest of the gear that somehow accumulates before kickoff. Then there are the features that turn the truck itself into part of the setup. An available Fender Premium Audio System uses 10 speakers when the parking lot needs a soundtrack, while two available 120-volt power outlets give you useful power access away from home.
And when the weekend plans involve something larger than a cooler, the Frontier offers a towing rating of up to 7,150 pounds when properly equipped. That capability extends its usefulness well beyond football season, whether you're towing recreational equipment, hauling supplies or putting your truck to work around Johnstown, Fonda or Gloversville.
The 2027 Nissan Frontier Adds Another Option for Drivers Who Like the PRO-4X Look
The timing of the USA Today Sports award is especially good because the 2027 Frontier lineup brings something new for drivers who like the more rugged side of the truck. The new Sport Edition package brings PRO-4X-inspired styling to the popular Frontier SV. Available with both SV 4x4 and 4x2 configurations, the package adds all-terrain tires, additional skid plate protection and distinctive yellow accents. The result is another way to get a Frontier with a more athletic appearance and equipment intended for drivers who regularly venture beyond pavement.
The 2027 Frontier also introduces an available Qi2 wireless phone charger designed for faster, more consistent charging. If you're interested in comparing the newest trucks as they arrive, our New Nissan Inventory is an easy place to start.
A 310-Horsepower V6 Makes the Frontier Useful Long After the Game Ends
Tailgating may have earned the Frontier its latest trophy, but this is still a midsize pickup designed to work. The Frontier comes standard with a 3.8-liter V6, giving drivers naturally aspirated V6 power without requiring a move to a full-size truck. There's an impressive longevity statistic behind the nameplate, too. According to Nissan, 92% of Frontier trucks sold over the past decade are still on the road today.
For drivers around Broadalbin, Northville and Mayfield who want one vehicle for work during the week and everything else they have planned afterward, those parts of the Frontier story may matter just as much as its ability to host a great Saturday afternoon.
From the Parking Lot to the Campsite, the Frontier Has Room for More Than Football
The fun thing about the tailgating award is that many of the qualities USA Today Sports voters liked aren't limited to game day. A six-foot bed can carry camping gear. Available power outlets are useful at campsites and outdoor events. The available audio system can follow you well beyond your driveway. A maximum towing rating of up to 7,150 pounds when properly equipped opens the door to trailers and recreational equipment.
That's what makes the award particularly fitting for the Frontier. Tailgating happens to combine a surprising number of things pickup owners already ask their trucks to do: carry a lot of stuff, provide power, bring the entertainment and still be ready to drive home afterward.
